Our Visit to the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum — A Day with a True Motorcycling Legend

Discover our trip to the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum, exploring rare classic bikes and hearing stories from Sammy himself — a must‑watch for UK motorcyclists.

Every now and then, we get the chance to experience something genuinely special — and our trip to the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum was exactly that. In our video on the Roadrunner Motorcycles YouTube channel, we take you along with us as we explore one of the most iconic motorcycle collections in the world, guided by the legendary Sammy Miller himself.

Based in Hampshire, the museum is home to more than 500 beautifully restored motorcycles, many of which are rare, historic, or completely unique. Walking through the doors feels like stepping into a living archive of motorcycling history — and we were lucky enough to see it all through Sammy’s eyes.

A Personal Tour with Sammy Miller

One of the highlights of our visit was having Sammy give us a personal tour. At 92 years old, he’s still bursting with energy, enthusiasm, and an incredible depth of knowledge. As we moved through the museum, he shared stories from his racing career, insights into the engineering behind the bikes, and anecdotes from decades spent restoring some of the most important machines ever built.

Filming this was a real privilege. Instead of simply pointing a camera at the exhibits, we were able to capture Sammy’s passion, humour, and hands‑on approach. It felt less like a museum tour and more like a masterclass in motorcycle engineering and heritage.

Inside the Workshops — Where the Magic Happens

The museum isn’t just a display space; it’s a working restoration hub. We were invited into the workshops, where Sammy and his team bring forgotten motorcycles back to life with meticulous attention to detail. Seeing the tools, parts, and works‑in‑progress up close gave us a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind every bike on display.

For anyone who loves classic motorcycles, engineering, or British motorcycling history, this part of the visit is pure gold. It’s a reminder of how much skill and dedication goes into preserving these machines for future generations.

Why This Visit Meant So Much to Us

What truly makes our visit unforgettable is Sammy himself. Spending time with a man who has shaped British motorcycling history was an honour, and seeing the passion he still pours into every restoration was inspiring. From the legendary AJS V4, to the beautifully engineered Gilera 500 Four, to rare racing icons like the Ducati Desmo singles and the Ariel GOV 132 trials bike he famously rode, the museum is packed with machines that define classic motorcycle heritage. Each bike has a story, and hearing those stories directly from Sammy brought the whole experience to life. If you’re passionate about classic motorcycles, vintage racing bikes, or the history of British motorcycling, our video captures the spirit of Sammy’s incredible collection — and the remarkable man behind it.
